Cato’s Island Chief cabinet is now labeled MR-Safe in accordance with ASTM F2503. The cabinet is constructed of all non-magnetic materials and is safe to use in a magnetic resonance imaging environment.
The Island Chief is a surface-mounted cabinet that now comes in a larger size to accommodate non-magnetic fire extinguishers and up to 20lb ABC fire extinguishers offered through JL Industries. Please see our submittal for a list of specific extinguisher models that will now be accommodated by this cabinet.
Cato’s cost-effective plastic Island Chief fire extinguisher cabinets are manufactured in the US, are available in red or white and each cabinet is labeled with the green MR Safe label.

NFPA 99 Healthcare Facilities Code Chapter 16 describes requirements for fire extinguishers in MRI rooms – “Fire extinguishers and associated hardware rated as MR conditional or MR safe shall be provided in MRI rooms and associated spaces”.
